    Coax–>modem–>AX1800–>Newfi D2 (AP mode)
    AX1800 “sees” a computer ethernet connected to Newfi (on the connected device list), but not the Newfi, or any other Ethernet connected devices (tried a PS5).
    AX1800 performing fine otherwise (found out the hard way that the LAN Ethernet port is left to right #3, unlike the Newfi)
    I followed the instructions from the blog explicitly (I believe)
    AX1800 running on v2.8.8
    Newfi firmware unknown, I am not sure I updated to current, and I can’t verify it (login fail)

    the blog instructions note to mirror the network SSIDs from the AX1800, which I did (both share the same LAN SSID, as well). I did add a fourth network SSID to the Newfi.

    does the firmware need to match? thoughts?

    Firmware versions don’t need to match. The main requirement is that you connect a tagged port on the AX1800 to a tagged port on the Newifi. After you switch the Newifi to AP mode, it will get an IP address from the AX1800, so you should be able to “see” the Newifi (with an IP address assigned by the AX1800 via DHCP).

    Ethernet port numbers are marked on the back of the router box. For some models the numbering is from left to right, others from right to left.

    Now that you lost visibility into the Newifi, the best bet is to reset it and redo the AP mode switch over.

    I must have connected the wrong ports; both were tagged
    If the AP (Newfi) had a different (from the router) LAN SSID, would I be able to login to the Newfi?
    The physical connection (router-AP) needs to be between the physical (Ethernet) LAN ports, and both of those ports need to be tagged; correct?

    Yes, you connect the router to the AP with an Ethernet cable. The ports on both ends need to be tagged and assigned to LAN.

    Once you switch the AP router to AP mode, it will function as a DHCP client and need to grab an IP address from the router. If your AP emits a different SSID, and when you connect a device to that SSID, your device will get an IP address from the upstream router. If the connection between the AP and the router isn’t functioning, then your device won’t get an IP address
